Annual fundraising campaign to to help fund services to Milton’s senior population

Dear Neighbor,

The Friends of the Council on Aging enriches the lives of seniors in our community by providing additional financial support for programs and services offered by the COA to residents over 60. The most costly service is transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, and Senior Center activities and events. The COA provided 6,476 rides to seniors last year. A very large percentage of rides were for people who are still living in their own homes. Over 9,000 seniors participated in sponsored programs and events.

Our biggest expense by far is the purchase of new vehicles. The fleet provides rides for Milton seniors and includes three vans and two cars. In the past two calendar years, the Friends spent $67,000 on new vans. This year we have the extra support of Maureen Conlon and Milton Boot Camp. Thank you Maureen for organizing a Fit for Life Walk this past month for the COA, the proceeds from which will go to the Friends for our transportation needs.

Once again it is time for us to ask for your support, so that we can continue to serve our ever-growing senior population. Your generosity last year enabled us to provide:

  • Transportation.
  • Postage for the monthly newsletters.
  • Exercise equipment and kitchen supplies.
  • Pen pal luncheon with Tucker School students and seniors.
  • Room darkening shades for better viewing of movies and presentations.
  • Complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks.
  • Holiday and special occasion celebrations.
  • Scholarships for those in need to allow them to participate in events and programs.

All town residents are invited to support the COA through a Friends membership. It is not just for seniors, because everyone’s help is needed. Please support our seniors by returning the enclosed, postage-paid reply envelope, with your tax-deductible contribution, to the Friends of the Milton COA at 10 Walnut St., Milton, MA 02186

Thank you so much for your continued support. Our best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Friends of the Milton Council on Aging
