Interfaith Social Services asking for Halloween costume donations

Interfaith Social Services’ annual Halloween drive distributes costumes to local children in need

Interfaith Social Services is seeking donations of new Halloween costumes for their annual Halloween Costume Drive. Each October, the organization distributes hundreds of costumes to the children served through their food pantry.

Interfaith is a multiservice agency that has been serving families and individuals on the South Shore for more than 70 years. Their programs include one of the largest food pantries in greater Boston, a mental health counseling center and homelessness prevention services. Interfaith also runs seasonal initiatives such as Bunny Baskets, a Backpack Drive and Help for the Holidays holiday gift program to bring a bit of joy to the children of their clients.

During the annual Halloween Costume Drive, generous individuals and businesses donate hundreds of new Halloween costumes, which are then sorted by volunteers. In mid-October, client families are invited to “shop” and select a costume for each child in their family age 12 and under.

“Our clients’ children just love this event each year,” said Interfaith’s executive director Rick Doane. “The kids want to be able to choose their own costume so that they can join in activities like trick-or-treating with their friends. And their parents are just so incredibly grateful for all of our seasonal programs.”

Donations of new costumes and accessories can be dropped off at Interfaith Social Services, 105 Adams St., Quincy, during business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Costumes can also be purchased from an online Wish List and shipped directly to Interfaith. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Instructions for both of these options can be found at interfaithsocialservices.org/Halloween-costume-drive.

All donations need to be received no later than Friday, Oct. 11. Questions about the program can be directed to Paula Daniels at [email protected] or 617-773-6203, ext. 28.
