What are we discussing? Top Milton Neighbors posts – January 2022

Wondering what the top Milton Neighbors posts for were this past month?

We’ve summarized the top posts for you from the past 28 days.

1. Reminder for one way to work together as a community in order to help Milton Public Schools’ children

“Morning neighbors — just re-upping my request that any of you with even a day or two a month to spare consider applying to be a substitute teacher at a Milton school. I just got my approval at Pierce 😀. Today, I spoke with Susan Higgins, who is their administrative assistant and she told me that they have ZERO subs. ZERO. In a town as wealthy and privileged as Milton, this strikes me as unfathomable. Surely some of us can give a day or two!!! Reach out to Laurie Dunn today if you want to volunteer. You need no expertise…”

2. Idea for Miltonians to sub at Milton Public Schools while many staff are out due to covid-related issues

“…I’m a firm believer in keeping our kids in school, in person in MPS. So I emailed Principal Fish at Pierce to start the process of becoming a substitute teacher. In MA, you don’t need a teaching certificate, so you may well be qualified by simply filling out a CORI form and getting fingerprinted. Inevitably, staff and faculty at our kids’ schools will contract COVID and will be out for quarantine. If we can band together as a community and help fill in those spots, the chances of keeping our kids in school, in person, increases substantially.”

3. Seeking Trader Joes favorites

Hi neighbors! I am making a trip to Trader Joe’s tomorrow. What are some of your family’s favorites?

4. Desire to keep schools closed for a bit longer after the holiday break

“(Posted Sunday night 1/2/22) Why aren’t we discussing (briefly) closing the schools or a temporary remote school option for the next two weeks? Last known wastewater covid measurements are a factor of 6-8 times worse than last January’s post holiday peak, and that was before New Year’s Eve and weekend gatherings. (see 2021 data – Last January numbers spiked HARD in the first half of the month and dropped off quickly in the second)…”

5. Why are we closing prominent and busy Tufts Children’s Hospital which largely serves marginalized communities?

“Tufts is where we have taken our children for years for compassionate care. I always refer to it as “Boston’s best kept secret.”
Now money is outweighing the needs of children as the Floating Childrens Hopsital is being closed and converted to an adults hospital.
Please consider signing.

6. Auto body recommendations

“Auto Body Shops that people really like?”

7. Physician recommendation

“Can I have a recommendation of a good Obgyn at Beth Israel Deaconess…?”

8. Jobs for teens

“Anyone have any inside info about good places for teenagers to get a part time job?”

9. Indian food recommendations

“Has anyone order in Indian food recently? Any favorites out there?”

10. Seeking new reads!

“Anyone have any good book recommendations?”
