Empowering friendship and fun: Milton’s ‘Junior Gym Buddies’ program for special needs kids

Ages 10 – 17

The “Junior Gym Buddy” Program is a program provided by the Milton Parks and Recreation Department and the Milton High School
Community Service Program.

The “Junior Gym Buddy” Program is a gathering for developmentally delayed and/or physically handicapped children Ages 10-17. The program
offers activities such as athletics, arts and crafts, games and special events.

The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for developmentally delayed and/or handicapped children to socialize and interact with their peers. It also provides a community service-learning opportunity for Milton

High School students. Each participant is teamed up with two “buddies” from MHS. MHS students volunteer through the Community Service
Learning Program at Milton High School. Supervision and coordination is under the direction of the Milton Park and Recreation Department Special Needs Coordinator.

Program is held Wednesday evenings at the Glover school gym 6:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
