Text message notification system for bus service interruptions and delays to continue to work with Verizon service

Last week, we announced that REMIND would no longer work with Verizon wireless service.

However, great news! Verizon just announced that the company would not charge any additional fees to Remind for text messages sent over its platform, which means Verizon customers can still receive these messages.

The messaging app, which had previously stated that it would be discontinuing free texting for Verizon customers on Jan. 28 as a result of the fee, reported that there would be no service disruption.

For those who have not signed up, the Milton Public Schools Transportation Department now uses Remind© to utilize text messages to notify families and students who subscribe of last minute significant delays or interruptions in bus service.

This system is for major mechanical issues, weather-related delays, road closures or other unavoidable last minute major interruptions, not minor delays.

How to participate:

Families will need to OPT IN and SUBSCRIBE to this service and will not automatically begin receiving updates by having a bus pass. Please note that parents do not need to have a smartphone to receive the text messages. The email encouraged Pierce Middle School and Milton High School students to subscribe as well.

To subscribe to the MPS Transportation text update system please follow these steps:

  1. In the phone number box of your text message app, type in the phone number 81010
  2. In the message box, type the following code @mpsbusinfo and send

  3. You will receive a text confirming that you have subscribed – the system will automatically recognize your phone number as a member of the Milton Public Schools community, as long as your cell phone number is in the MPS system.

  4. You can stop receiving updates at any time by texting back @leave

The system cannot receive texts back nor are the emails monitored from the Remind App.

The best way to communicate with the Transportation Department is through email at [email protected].
