Local Landscapes in Pastel: Bruce Ravelson’s art exhibit at Milton’s Wotiz Gallery in May 2025

The Milton Public Library is hosting a wonderful art exhibit in our Wotiz Gallery from May lst through June 30th of the paintings of artist Bruce Ravelson.  Mr. Ravelson, who lives in Milton, studied art with Laurinda O’Connor, Beth Neville, Ann Gillespie, Karen Margulies, and Alain Picard. He is showing a group of pastels, mostly landscapes, in this 2-month display. Bruce is a member of the Central Massachusetts Pastel Society and the Dedham Art Association. He is committed to being an active part of the local arts community. He regularly organizes informal artist gatherings to share work, exchange ideas, and provide mutual support. Additionally, he facilitates Open Studio sessions at the Milton Art Center, where artists of all levels are welcome to create in a collaborative and encouraging space. Pastel painting allows him to bring his unique perspective to life, and he hopes that his work resonates with others in a way that invites them to see the world a little differently.

Bruce also says this about his work: “Pastel painting provides me with the perfect medium to interpret the scenes and photographs that inspire me. I am drawn to compositions that captivate me – whether through dramatic color, striking contrasts of light and shadow, or the depth of atmospheric perspective that challenges my creativity. My subjects often hold personal significance, and I strive to convey them in a way that goes beyond a photographic snapshot, offering an emotional and artistic perspective unique to pastels.”

And he continues with: “I have had the good fortune to study with several outstanding artists. My journey with pastels began in 2018 at the Milton Art Center, where I took a course with Laurinda O’Connor. I received valuable training and guidance from Milton artist Beth Neville, who has helped me develop technique and confidence as an artist. While I have never had the opportunity to study under him, I have long admired the work of Hal Kurnit, whose influence continues to inspire me.”

We encourage you to come visit our Gallery sometime in May or June to view this exhibit, and there will also be a free and open reception on Thursday, 5/8, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., where you can meet Mr. Ravelson and view his work.
