Milton Select Board to review Town Counsel bids, fall warrant articles on July 30

The Milton Select Board will convene on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. in the John Cronin Conference Room at Milton Town Hall (525 Canton Ave.) for a meeting that includes interviews with law firms vying to provide Town Counsel services, as well as key preparations for the upcoming Fall Special Town Meeting.

The meeting will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by interviews with two law firms under consideration for Town Counsel: KP Law, P.C. and Mead, Talerman, Costa LLC. The Board is expected to discuss and potentially vote on selecting one of the firms.

A major portion of the agenda will focus on reviewing potential warrant articles for the October 27, 2025 Fall Special Town Meeting. Proposed items include:

• General Bylaw Amendments related to alcohol on Town property and light trespass

• A Home Rule Petition from the School Building Committee to extend land transaction deadlines by five years

• A Municipal Decarbonization Commitment proposed by the Climate Action Planning Committee

• A zoning bylaw amendment from the Planning Board to update the sign bylaw

• A placeholder article for the Master Plan Implementation Committee, among others

The Board will also review and vote on several event permit applications, including:

• International Overdose Awareness Day event on August 28, co-hosted by the Milton Health Department and Milton Coalition on the Town Green

• A SUNday solar energy awareness event organized by the First Parish of Milton on September 21

• The Milton Chamber of Commerce and Milton Art Center’s “Back to Business: A Community Celebration” in Manning Park on September 5

In addition, the Board will consider approval of meeting minutes from several prior sessions spanning from May to June 2025.

The meeting will conclude with an executive session to review confidential minutes from past meetings and discuss the release of executive session materials related to the Attorney General v. Town of Milton case (SJ-2024-0078 and SJC 13580), as well as other legal matters involving M.G.L. c. 40A §3A.
