Potential road changes ahead: MassDOT discusses Route 28 redesign with Milton officials

At the July 22, 2025 Select Board meeting, officials from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation met with the Select Board to discuss potential changes to Route 28 / Randolph Avenue between Reedsdale Road and Chickatawbut Road to address crashes and speeding issues.

MassDOT officials introduced a potential quick-build pilot road diet, which would reduce the number of lanes of Route 28 / Randolph Ave in order to reduce speeds and increase safety.

The meeting video is available through the Milton Access TV YouTube page at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvg0TfnYgOQ

Following the meeting, MassDOT provided a brief memo outlining road diet alternatives which can be viewed here (PDF).

The memo is being reviewed by Town staff and further information is expected from MassDOT. The Select Board will engage in further discussions before any changes are implemented.

In addition, MassDOT is continuing work on the Randolph Ave / Chickatawbut Roundabout project. The 100% Design Plans are linked below and the state webpage for the project is available here: https://www.mass.gov/randolph-ave-rt-28chickatawbut-intersection-improvement-project
