Raised in Framingham, Mass., and currently living in Milton with his wife, Debbie, local artist David Dauer is returning to his roots in the art world with an exhibit at the Colo Colo Gallery in New Bedford, MA, Wednesday through Sunday, from February 10 to March 2, 2017.  The gallery will also host an opening reception on Saturday, February 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring Mr. Dauer’s work.

“Dauer’s work utilizes fantasy/surreal themes while using vibrant colors that are eye-popping,” said Luis Villanueva, owner of the Colo Colo Gallery.  “His work is innovative and will make you smile and think at the same time. The scenes and subject matter can be provocative at times, many harkening to the age old theme of ‘survival of the fittest.’”

Dauer discovered his creativity at the age of five-years-old when he started drawing trees outside the window of his childhood home.  He continued to pursue his passion, but eventually his career took him in a different direction.  After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and earning a Bachelors and Masters of Fine Arts at Kent State University, circumstances led Dauer into the publishing industry and a career in web design.  He recently returned to painting in 2016 as he spends countless hours in his Milton, Mass. Studio.

The artist reinvented himself after being hit hard by the recession.  “After the recession, my job of 24 years ended with the company going under.  I partnered to develop a website which catered to the region’s recreational boating industry.  After selling the business due to poor funding, I was faced with some difficult decisions,” said Dauer.  These circumstances allowed him to follow his dream and he is excited about the revitalization of his art.  “Free from the constraints of magazine and web pages, the imagery flows from a stream of consciousness.  Along with a bit of whimsy and joy, I use bright colors to express the stories of my imagination.  I am thrilled to be able to continue my passion.  I am grateful to the Colo Colo Gallery for providing an opportunity for the public to see my work.”
