Seeking Scout of All Things New and Noteworthy in Milton

The Milton Scene is seeking an intern to join our team, write stories for our popular local website.

This is an ideal position for a college student to gain writing and journalism experience.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Scout out new restaurants, parks, attractions, etc., in Milton and write about them
  • Investigate and write about hot topics in the town – sharing Miltonians’ opinions and updates (there are lots of these readily available in the Milton Neighbors Facebook group!)
  • Attend and reporting on local events, including holiday affairs, parades, Board of Selectmen and other Town meetings
  • Interview locals, business owners, etc., about local events and hot topics
  • Review local restaurants and new businesses
  • Let the Town know what’s new and exciting in Milton
  • We also strongly encourage you to get creative and share your own story ideas, too! There is a lot of flexibility and independence in this position!

Qualifications:

  • Independent, self-starter: we’re not micromanagers – we need you to seek out new and interesting stuff in Milton and go after it!
  • Excellent computer and internet skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent grasp of grammar and punctuation (you cringe when you see *your instead of *you’re)
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Creative. We need your story ideas.
  • Active on social media.
  • Must be personable.

Strongly desired skills:

  • Familiarity with Milton, MA (ideally, a current or past resident, or a student in town).
  • Experience using WordPress.

Commitment:

$11/hour with about 5-10 hours of work per week. We’d ideally like to see two-three stories from you per week, on a range of topics related to Milton.

About the Milton Scene:

The Milton Scene is a website and social media group (Milton Neighbors) featuring local expertise, community resources, news, recommendations and events. The Milton Scene publishes stories and events into daily and posts them to the Milton Scene website (approximately 18,000 monthly views), on the Milton Neighbors Facebook group (over 9,000 people), on the Milton Scene Facebook page, and on the Milton Scene Twitter account. Every story goes out in the daily newsletter, which currently has over 2,000 subscribers. Your stories will feature your name in the byline, and will have a broad reach. We connect residents in Milton and beyond with local resources, expertise, news, happenings, and community fun.
