Check out this interview with Jennifer Collins McKinney, real estate agent at Collins McKinney Real Estate and Investments!
How did you get started in the real estate business?
I grew up in Florida where my family is either in construction or real estate development (sometimes both), so I kind of grew up in the industry. In the late 1990s, I got my Florida real estate license and dabbled in different real estate jobs. My mom grew up in Barnstable, so we would come to Boston often to visit. It was always a dream of mine to live here.
So in 2000, we sold the house in Orlando and made the move. In looking for an apartment in the city, I met a real estate broker who assisted us in securing housing. After going through the process of finding an apartment in Boston, I decided to take a chance and get my Massachusetts license and start a new career. I never looked back.
How long have you been in the real estate business?
I have been in the real estate business here in Massachusetts for almost 19 years.
Have you always worked in real estate or have you dabbled in other things? Please describe.
Oh, I have dabbled in many things! I have been a bar manager, advertising associate, executive assistant, event planner and so many more. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. I absolutely hated working in corporate America. I really needed something that would allow me to be my own boss.
What makes Milton a special place to live?
I love Milton. We moved here from South Boston. Once our oldest became school age, we knew we needed to leave the city. Milton not only is close to the city, but offers a wonderful community and excellent school system.
What are your thoughts on the current Milton real estate market?
HOT HOT HOT! It always is though.
What locations do you cover / specialize in?
I cover all of Massachusetts but specialize in the South Boston and Milton areas. Many of my clients start as first time home buyers in the city and eventually make the move to the burbs. I have sold homes all over Massachusetts.
Do you prefer to be a buyer’s agent or a seller’s agent and why?
I like doing both really. I love working with clients and assisting them with all their real estate needs. Being in real estate is a lot more than just making a sale. For me it is all about building relationships.
What is your best tip for buyers?
Surround yourself with the best people in the industry.
What is your best tip for sellers?
Plan ahead. Prep your home for the sale. Price it right at the beginning.
What are some lessons you’ve learned as a real estate agent?
Be honest. Again, it’s all about building trusting relationships.
What’s your favorite thing about working in real estate?
I love working with people and educating them on all facets of buying and selling real estate.
Anything else you’d like our readers to know about?
We are bulldog lovers!
