Thornton to represent Precinct 1

Hello Friends and Neighbors!

My name is Kyan Thornton (“Kee-ahn”) and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Town Meeting Member, Precinct 1. I look forward to serving my neighbors and working to make Milton the best it can be.

My husband, Kofi (Bosque-Hamilton) and I have lived in Milton for 8 years with our children, Shanti, 7th grade, and Ellis, 1st grade. During our time in Milton, my family has played and coached town soccer and basketball; I worked with neighbors to address the safety of our children’s routes to and from school; and I have been active on the School Facilities Advisory Committee, which looks to address space needs in our public schools. I previously served as a Town Meeting Member in Precinct 2 and I always voted on the issues of our town with my neighbors concerns in mind.

I love Milton for being home to a diversity of residents. I am interested in continuing to serve as a Town Meeting Member in my new precinct (P1) to ensure that town government prioritizes the concerns of Milton’s diverse populace and remains inclusive of residents from all backgrounds. If elected, I will work to make sure we consider a full range of perspectives when making decisions regarding town budgets and taxes, commercial and residential development, and overcrowding in our schools. I am in favor of responsible commercial development and increased oversight in town finances. I advocate keeping town services accessible and affordable, and I support changes to town systems that are efficient and cost effective.

As a high school ESL teacher, I not only teach my students English, but also valuable critical thinking skills. I promise to bring my own critical thinking to every issue presented at Town Meeting so that I can help make the best decisions for our town.

Thank you for considering me.
