Milton Cemetery Trustees reminder: cemetery property not to be used for driving lessons

The following announcement was recently posted by the Milton Cemetery Trustees:

It has come to our attention that our premises has been the scene of more than a few drivers education lessons lately.

PLEASE No driving lessons in the cemetery.

This is one of our long-standing rules and has been posted at all entrances for many  years now. Accidents DO happen and they an happen to you.

Not only is it disrespectful to run over a headstone (even if it’s accidental), it’s very costly. Hitting a huge chunk of granite will not only really damage your car… it could also cost you $3,000 to $5,000 to replace a broken headstone. Some of the older historic ones are irreplaceable.

Never say never. It can happen to you – a deer jumping out of the woods, a sudden step on the gas while in reverse… they call them accidents for a reason. Nobody sets out to have one.

Please use good judgment when you are on what so many people consider to be sacred property.
