Michael Dermody announces candidacy for Town Meeting Member, Precinct 8
My name is Michael Dermody and I am running for Town Meeting Member in Precinct 8. My wife, Margaret Driscoll, and I moved to her hometown of Milton in 2019 and we could not imagine living in a more wonderful community. Town meeting was an important part of my life growing up with three generations of Dermodys serving as town meeting members. I am running for Town Meeting to continue this legacy while serving my new community here in Milton.
I currently serve as the Director of Campus Ministry at Catholic Memorial School where I am responsible with furthering the mission of the school by invigorating the faith formation of students through a variety of programs. I am a proud alum of the University of Michigan and a Remick Leader at the University of Notre Dame as a part of the Alliance for Catholic Education.
As an experienced educator working the last 7 years in education, I have a strong understanding on the importance of the education of our children’s body, mind, and spirit especially during this global pandemic. I have embraced the challenges of COVID-19 as an opportunity to be innovative in ensuring our students education and well-being. This administrative role also provides a strong understanding on handling budgets and discerning the priorities of an organization.
Working in a school I have committed my life to giving back to our children and future generations. As the leader of Catholic Memorial’s service program, I have accompanied our students in completing over 10,000 hours to local communities since last March. I am major advocate for equality and ensuring that all people have rights and access to equal opportunities. I hope to provide a new perspective to the town of Milton.
Ultimately, I love Milton and am incredibly proud to now call myself a resident of this wonderful town. My hope is to give back to this community and I believe that my professional experience and zeal for public office will help me make a difference in Milton.
