Select Board November 30 and December 2: Reprecincting, Town Meeting articles, and more

During the public comment period, Select Board member, Richard Wells, discussed his intentions to support My Brother’s Keeper again this holiday season, by collecting unwrapped crock pots. He has asked that you email him at [email protected], if you would like to make a donation. 

Discussion/review of letter to FAA regarding runway 4R alternatives

Tom Dougherty, Massport Community Advisory Committee, joined to discuss the latest  updates regarding possible flight path alternatives, and the MIT study. He has drafted a letter to the FAA demanding that they take some action. The Select Board motioned to support this letter and to include suggested edits. 

New districts-reprecincting

Susan Galvin, Town Clerk, joined to discuss new information regarding reprecincting in Milton.  Major changes would occur for congressional districts, and precinct 4 will be a split precinct. This could cause logistical challenges and confusion for the voters that live in precinct 4. This issue will be discussed further at future meetings. 

Town meeting article

Chase Berkeley, Director of Public Works, joined to discuss a proposed article that will appropriate funding to construct a public sewer on Randolph Avenue, which will be part of a sewer betterment plan. The work that needs to take place on each personal property has caused the cost of the project to increase to about 1.4 million in total for design, construction, oversight, all related costs. This would be a bonded article, and if approved construction could begin as early as summer 2022. He noted that the longer they wait to move forward, the more expensive the project will get.

Covid-19 update

Milton is starting to see a slight increase in positive cases, from all different age groups.  The next free Covid-19 test date will take place on Sunday December 19 from 10-2 at the DPW yard. An additional date may take place on December 26. All testing dates are weather permitting. Moderna clinics for boosters have started. You must be 18 years or older and must sign up online.

The meeting on December 2 was held in order to close and finalize the warrant.

It appears that there will potentially be 7 articles, including a citizens article which could be a minimum of 2 nights. The Select Board motioned to approve and accept the articles. 

The next Select Board meetings are scheduled to take place on December 8 and December 22.
