Boston and Belfast photographic journey to take place February 18

Irish Photojournalist Martin Nangle will take us on a virtual photographic journey on Saturday, 2/18, from 2-3:30 p.m. called “Boston and Belfast.” Mr. Nangle has written a book called Circle – Volume 1: A Belfast Story and a sister title called September ’89 which is all about Boston neighborhoods.

These large format books are now in the permanent collection of the Ulster Museum and although their images are curated from these renowned collections, they also describe what it was like to be a photojournalist working for the national and international media during the 1970s and 1980s in Belfast and Boston.

This talk will explore the streets of Boston, and the speaker will share his photography as he searched for signs of Irishness in Boston neighborhoods and how they are similar to those found in Belfast. Advance registration is required and once signed up, you will receive the Zoom link. This talk is being given on a Saturday afternoon because of the time difference between Boston and Europe.

We really hope you might join host Jean Hlady to learn a lot of fascinating details about the Irish living in both cities, while enjoying lots of vintage photos at the same time. For more information, go to the MPL website (www.miltonlibrary.org) where you can also register to receive the Zoom link.

All of these events are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library and are free and open to everyone.“Milton Grows”- which funds some of these programs –  is a year-long initiative for all ages focused on gardening and sustainability.

Funded by the federal Library Services and Technology Act, the grant is administered by the MBLC, and supported by our partners Sustainable Milton and the Friends of the MPL.
