Why run in Milton’s 2023 Annual Town Election?

Milton’s Annual Town Election will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Running for public office is a way to make a difference in your town – and might even make a small dent in the world!

Running for office gives you an opportunity to directly influence the laws that affect your community. Not only does your candidacy in a local election help your reputation as a dedicated and concerned citizen, it also gives you training and experience that you can use in other areas of your life – most notably – leadership, patience, and diplomacy.

Not sure where to start? Run for Town Meeting. Your participation as a Town Meeting Member is an excellent introduction to how Milton is run. You’ll get a feel for what a Town-Wide position might look like, should you choose to advance your political career in Milton.

How to run

Nomination Papers for both Town Wide Offices and Town Meeting for the Annual Town Election to be held April 25, 2023, are available by contacting the Office of the Town Clerk. Papers must be picked up in person by the candidate. Nomination papers for Milton’s 2023 Annual Town Election due March 7, 2023 at 5:00 p.m..

Getting your name on the ballot

Nomination papers are available in the Office of the Town Clerk. Have your neighbors and friends who are registered voters clearly sign your papers. Submit completed nomination papers to the Town Clerk by the deadline.

To Be Nominated for Town-wide Office: Signatures of at least 50 registered voters of the Town are required on the nomination papers. The Town Clerk must certify these signatures so we always suggest obtaining about 20% more just to be safe.

To Be Nominated for Town Meeting: Signatures of at least 10 registered voters of your precinct are required on the nomination papers. The Town Clerk must certify these signatures so we always suggest obtaining about 50% more just to be safe. Some current Town Meeting Members will be seeking re-election but all seats are available in each precinct.

  • Trustees of the Public Library Vote for Three – 3 years
  • Trustees of the Cemetery Vote for One – 5 years
  • Housing Authority Vote for One – 5 years
  • Planning Board Vote for Two – 3 years
