Daniel Young announces candidacy for Town Meeting Member, Precinct 5

Dear neighbors,

I am pleased to announce my candidacy to become a Milton town meeting member in Precinct 5. My wife, daughter and I have lived in Milton since 2018 and I am a proud Tucker dad, a Massachusetts native, and a graduate of UMass Amherst.

I hold a master’s degree in public administration from NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and in my professional life, I have worked in university finance, budgeting, and human resources for close to 20 years. Currently, I serve as Senior Director, Finance & Administration, at Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, while my wife is a professor of theatre at Northeastern University. We feel so lucky to have found a welcoming home in Milton and I’m running for town meeting member to give back to our beautiful town and community.

With your support, I will promote equitable growth and smart development that is respectful of our town’s character using common-sense budgeting. I strongly believe that Milton’s excellent school system is the crown jewel of the town and that we need to support our teachers and school administrators as they foster a sense of belonging and inclusion while continuing to promote academic rigor. I support the building of a new school in town to accommodate our growing school age population.

In terms of development, I’m particularly interested in the potential of Accessory Dwelling Units to help expand the affordable housing options to enable seniors and extended families to remain in their family homes and access the support they need. As a collaborative leader who firmly believes in the value of public service, I will apply my professional experience to seek out solutions to complex problems.

Finally, I wholeheartedly endorse the excellent report from the Equity and Justice for All Advisory Committee and desire to see the town move the report’s actionable recommendations forward and commit to diversity, equity, and inclusion in more meaningful ways.

Please encourage your friends and family to vote – local town elections matter a great deal in setting the direction of our community. You are welcome to contact me at [email protected] or find me at the same address on Facebook.  I humbly request your support on April 25.

Sincerely, R. Daniel Young
