Katie Conlon will not run for re-election to Milton Select Board in 2022

Yesterday, Katie Conlon shared the following announcement on her Facebook profile that she will not be running for re-election to the Milton Select Board for 2022:

It has been an honor to serve as a member of the Milton Select Board since 2013. I am grateful ‎to the voters for placing your trust in me. When my third term ends on April 26, 2022, I will step ‎down from the Select Board.

I have enjoyed my time in elected office, and will miss many aspects of the role. However, after ‎nine years, it is time for change. It is time for someone else to step forward and bring a fresh ‎perspective to town government.

Board achievements are team efforts. I’m grateful to all of my colleagues on the Select Board, ‎past and present, for their collaboration. I also thank former and current town administrators, ‎town employees, and fellow volunteers serving on other boards. Public service is not easy, but it ‎is a worthwhile endeavor. Each day, Milton’s dedicated town employees work hard, and often ‎under the radar, to make our community better. It has been a privilege to serve alongside all of ‎them.

From Chapter 40B to Chapter 90, from 100 inches of snow in 2015 to COVID-19 in 2020, and ‎from 3 members around the Cronin conference table to 5 members on Zoom, my years on the ‎Select Board have been challenging, fun, and an incredible learning experience. My thanks to all ‎of the Select Board alumni, retired town administrators and town government veterans who took ‎my phone calls and guided me along the way. There are too many to name, and they know who ‎they are.

I’m fortunate to have had a hand in issues that impact our daily lives, such as the redevelopment ‎of the former Hendries plant, modernizing the role of the board and the town administrator, the ‎Milton Village mixed-use zoning, the prohibition on recreational marijuana facilities, and the ‎ongoing battle to reduce air traffic over Milton. I will remember fondly all of the Memorial Day ‎and Veterans Day observances, Eagle Scout courts of honor, retirements, Milton High School ‎graduations, and other ceremonies in which I had an opportunity to participate.

There is much work to be done during the next four months, and I look forward to completing a ‎few projects before stepping down. Beyond April, I will seek out other ways to stay involved in ‎town government or local organizations.

Thank you, voters of Milton, for entrusting me to serve as a member of the Select Board for the ‎past nine years. Special thanks to all who managed or supported my campaigns and helped me ‎get elected. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to have served the community we all ‎love.‎
