Spencer Kyle Johnson announces candidacy for Milton Town Meeting Member, Precinct 10

My name is Spencer Kyle Johnson, and I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Town Meeting Member in Precinct 10.

My wife, Joelinda, and I have deep roots here in Milton. Many of Joelinda’s extended family are longstanding members of the Milton community. She has many fond childhood memories of Cheever Street. I have (mostly) fond memories of being grilled by her aunts and uncles upon her bringing her boyfriend (me) to Canton Ave on the holidays. Although we only fully settled here last year, Milton has long been a part of us. We are blessed to call this town our home.

I work in teaching and learning, which are my life passions. I am a learning designer (someone who works at the intersection of learning and technology!) at Boston College, where I am also a part-time professor. I also volunteer with organizations that educate communities about important social and political issues, and even use my spare time developing educational content about topics that I care about.

I believe my experience and passion will make me an effective Town Meeting Member: My disposition is to work tirelessly to learn, listen, and understand all perspectives with humility and curiosity. I thoroughly research all issues to make responsible and informed decisions. I believe in empowering people by making information accessible so they feel equipped to participate in important conversations. I will bring these skills to our community as an empathetic and empowering partner.

Several key issues have inspired me to run:

• Enhancing housing affordability, especially mindful of our retirees and future generations, while preserving Milton’s character.
• Supporting our schools, students, and families.
• Bringing more businesses to Milton, especially our Precinct 1 and 10 neighborhoods.
• Improving traffic safety near schools.

I look forward to meeting more of my neighbors during this campaign and learning about what matters to you. If you live in Precinct 10, I hope to earn your vote on April 30.
