Steve McCarthy announces candidacy for Milton Precinct 3 Town Meeting Member

I’m Steve McCarthy, candidate for Precinct 3 Town Meeting. I entered this race not only to become more civically engaged, but to offer a fresh perspective on critical issues facing Milton. Through attending Town Meeting, I was drawn to the inner-workings of town government and endeavored to become directly involved. From ordinary citizens to elected officials, we all have a seat at the table and I’d be humbled to join the many Milton residents who lend their time and voice in this capacity.

While I was born and raised in Lowell, I’ve been proud to call Milton my home for the past twelve years. In that time, Milton has certainly evolved, but issues constantly emerge which require careful consideration and would benefit from a new infusion to our legislative body. We’re fortunate to have so many prized assets here, including our schools, recreational programs and natural resources. My family has benefitted from all and we must work to protect them. My wife, Tara, and I are the proud parents of three children – Fiona (11), Liam (8), Niamh (6) – who currently attend the Glover School. We’re pleased that our children have prospered greatly from Milton’s vast educational, athletic and cultural offerings. I’ve also been grateful to have opportunities to work alongside my kids in volunteer activities through school and youth sports. Election to Town Meeting would allow me to contribute further to our community.

I also look forward to applying my skills and experience to Town Meeting. I graduated from UMass Amherst in 1994 with a degree in Finance and earned an MBA from Boston College in 2004. I have 22 years of experience in the commercial insurance industry and I’m currently employed as a reinsurance broker with Guy Carpenter & Co. in Boston. In my job, I encounter a diverse set of clients who seek solutions to mitigate their risk – much like citizens who seek representation to ensure positive outcomes for their respective neighborhoods. I would be honored to be one of those members representing the people of Precinct 3, and I respectfully ask for your support on April 26.
