Along with six other candidates, three of them independents, state Rep. Walter Timilty is running to succeed fellow Milton Democrat Brian Joyce in the state Senate Nov. 8.

Since 1998, Joyce has represented the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District that consists of Avon, Canton, Easton, East Bridgewater, Milton, Randolph, Sharon, Stoughton and West Bridgewater, in addition to Braintree.

May 31 at 5 p.m. is the last day and time for candidates who met the May 3 deadline to pull nomination papers to file them with the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Timilty will face Nora Harrington of Milton in the Sept. 8 Democratic primary, while Robert Carpenter and Frank Morrissey will square off in the Republican primary that day. Independent candidates are Diane DiTullio Agostino, a former Milton selectman, Ryan Harris, and Jonathan Lott of Stoughton.
