A message from the Town of Milton:

We are saddened to report that the town of Milton lost two residents early this morning in a fire at 1 Elias Lane. The two victims have been identified as Kenneth Guscott 92, and Leroy Whitmore, 88.

Milton firefighters responded to the single family home at about 12:30 a.m. today and entered the house. There was smoke showing and firefighters were stopped by the heat as they made their way to the second floor.

Two residents had already evacuated themselves and Mr. Guscott and Mr. Whitmore were still inside. Firefighters were able to reach the men, remove them from the house and both were pronounced dead. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

At this time, the cause of the fire appears accidental in nature. The fire is being jointly investigated by Milton Fire and Police and State Police assigned to both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Office of the Norfolk District Attorney.
