Watching fireflies is a special part of warm summer nights in New England. We watch, we enjoy, but do we really know what their flashes mean? An en-“lightening” presentation, by Don Salvatore of the Museum of Science’s Firefly Watch will open the doors of scientific discovery into the secret lives of fireflies. You will also learn how you can participate in a citizen science project to monitor firefly populations, and what can be done to improve your yard for fireflies and other insects.

This program is intended for adults and older children. Families with young children may be interested in the “Firefly Friends” program held the following night.

After the indoor presentation, participants will be taking a guided night-walk to observe fireflies outside. Wearing long pants and bringing bug spray is recommended.
