Milton Police Department increases enforcement of underage drinking laws

Parents encouraged to have conversations with kids about underage drinking

Substance abuse prevention requires a partnership between homes, the community, and law enforcement.

As another school year approaches, the Milton Police Department wants to reiterate our commitment to reducing incidents of underage alcohol use. We want you and your students to know that we will be increasing our enforcement initiatives in an effort to better address this serious health and safety problem.

We ask parents to join us in combatting this issue by having conversations with your children about underage drinking, setting boundaries, and defining expectations. While some parents accept the notion that youth alcohol consumption is a common rite of passage, the Milton Police Department does not take this position. We remind you that it is illegal for adults to provide youth with alcohol, for good reasons.

A robust community survey of 800 parents administered two years ago indicated that most Milton parents want the Milton Police to do more to discourage underage drinking. To that end, we will utilize a range of enforcement options that have consequences geared towards education and prevention. We want you and your children to be aware of this increased enforcement.
