Milton Public School parents invited to participate in homework policy conversation

The Milton Neighbors group has had several discussions regarding an update to the homework policy for the 2020-2021 elementary handbook. A group of concerned parents is seeking those interested in adding to the conversation:

We have had a meaningful meeting with the assistant superintendent and we want to hear from you too!

A lot has changed in the lives of parents, students and research since the homework policy was last updated in 2005!

The goal of the homework policy conversation is simply adjustment. The goal is not to get rid of homework. Although if you have that opinion you are welcome to share it! O

verall we would like to align the policy with what is considered best practices based on the time we live in and up to date research.

“(Homework)Policies should address the purposes of homework; amount and frequency; school and teacher responsibilities; student responsibilities; and, the role of parents or others who assist students with homework.” (source: www.nea.org/tools/16938.htm)

If you would like to receive updates on the conversation – whether or not you are the parent of an elementary, middle, or high school student, you are invited to sign up here.
