Service Opportunities at Milton Cemetery and Arboretum to take place May 15

Service Opportunities at Milton Cemetery and Arboretum: Free Informational Event!
Date: 05/15/2022 (Sun.)
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EDT
Location: Milton Cemetery office, 221 Centre Street Milton MA

Calling all current and former Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in high school who are looking for service opportunities… bring your ideas and creativity to the Milton Cemetery and Arboretum!

On Sunday May 15 from 2-4pm, join Milton Cemetery Superintendent Lisa Ahern, Milton Girl Scout Troop 65352, and Milton Boy Scouts Troop 2 to learn more about previous and potential projects at the Milton Cemetery and Arboretum. This is a great opportunity to pursue an independent project in a field that interests you, such as ecology, botany or history.

Your service project ideas can help you earn your Boy Scout Eagle Scout, Girl Scout Gold Award, scout badges, and/or Milton High School community service hour requirement. High School Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts (current and former), parents and troop leaders are invited.

Space is limited at this free program, registration required. Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040d4faaa92ea31-service

SPEAKERS:

  • Lisa Ahern will give an overview of the long partnership that the Milton cemetery has had with Boy and Girl Scouts, give a guided tour of the previous/in-progress scout projects at the cemetery (including a bee apiary, nesting boxes, and pollinator garden), and describe some of the cemetery’s current wish-list to spark your creativity!
  • Dave Humphreys (Leader Boy Scout Troop 2) and scouts who have successfully completed their projects at the cemetery will share their experiences and inspire you to create your own!
  • Wendy Garpow (Leader Girl Scout Troop 65352) will speak about local grant opportunities and other funding possibilities that will help you bring your project ideas to life!
  • A college strategist from HB Specialty Solutions will discuss how these types of service projects are also helpful when applying to colleges and academic scholarships.
