South Shore Children’s Chorus Concert to take place in Milton May 15

South Shore Children’s Chorus (SSCC), the region’s training program for all young singers, presents a “Spring Concert” on Sunday, May 15, 2:00 p.m. at Milton High School Auditorium, 25 Gile Road, Milton.

SSCC’s “Spring Concert” features more than 130 student singers from across the greater South Shore region performing works by uplifting choral pieces from the folk and choral traditions.  The ensemble features student singers from grades K- 12, engaged in SSCC’s three age-leveled ensembles – Training Choir (grades K-2), Intermediate Choir (grades 3-6) or Advanced Choir (grades 7-12) – throughout the 2021-22 school year.

“South Shore Children’s Chorus has grown exponentially this year, starting with 75 singers in the fall, now serving over 130 singers this spring. Securing Milton High School’s auditorium as a new performance venue provides the best experience to accommodate all our singers, families, and community supporters,” says Oberoi.

South Shore Children’s Chorus was founded in 2016 by Quincy native Kirsten Oberoi, featuring choral programs for student singers in grades pre-K through 9. The organization immediately grew to include an annual summer program, and Advanced Choir serving high school singers in grades 8 to 12. In the years since, SSCC has collaboratively performed with many music organizations including The Treble Chorus of New England, Genesis Chamber Singers, Quincy Choral Society and Atlantic Symphony Orchestra.  In 2018, South Shore Children’s Chorus expanded to a second rehearsal site in Sharon and launched its third campus in Hanover in 2021.  Joyful, positive encouragement and an uplifting environment inspire SSCC choristers to learn and embrace confidence through their own voice.

South Shore Children’s Chorus’s mission is to provide joyful music education and vocal training to students in South Shore communities and beyond. SSCC reveres the development and well-being of its students as a top priority, aiming to create a safe space and loving community for choristers to learn, grow and to find their own voice.  SSCC is passionate about access for all chorister students, regardless of financial circumstance or prior musical experience.  Need-based tuition assistance is available by application.
