David Lee Black’s exhibit ‘The Vanishing Light of Ireland’ to grace Milton Public Library’s Wotiz Gallery throughout January

The Milton Public Library will host the work of talented artist named David Lee Black in our Wotiz Gallery from January 2-31, 2024.

Mr. Black is an award-winning New England-based photographer and sculpture artist, and he describes himself as: “a storyteller on a never-ending pilgrimage to fill the gap between art and life, celebrating the differences between people, places and things.”

The title of this display is: “The Vanishing Light of Ireland: A Photographic Journey into the Rural History of County Clare, Ireland.”  This exhibit will feature mostly photos although there will also be a few small sculptures shown. His sculptural work, using liberated found objects and custom designed fabrications, is simultaneously whimsical and serious, graceful and awkward, understated and conspicuously complex.

Black invites the viewer to open their mind’s eye to explore, interpret and be inspired by his work in relation to their own experiences and life moments. He also applies his artistic skill and personal philosophy to his work in music, expressive arts therapy, educational workshops, and visual art performances. He holds a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and was a Tullaloughaun Fellowship Recipient for County Clare, Ireland (2012, 2014, 2017).

His work has been displayed at many locations, including the Galatea Fine art Gallery in Boston, the Rhode Island State House where he is an Artist-in-Residence (2023), the Plymouth (MA) Center for the Arts (several awards, 2022, 2018, ), the Freedom Gallery in County Clare, Ireland in a Juried Group Show (2019), and endless others. His work has also been published in many journals including the Providence Journal (2020), the Rhode Island Monthly (2019, 2020, 2021),a  publication called  “Blue” of the Cambridge Art Association (2019), and many more.
