Milton resident pens heartening response to calculus project lawsuit against Milton Public Schools

In Opponents of my kids’ math program have their calculus all wrong, Milton resident Régine Michelle Jean-Charles recently wrote about her children’s experience with Milton Public Schools’ math program, The Calculus Project.

She described it as having a “curriculum that celebrates math and science scholars of color, providing inspiration and models of future selves for youths who have long been unable to see themselves reflected in these fields” which “builds math skills in BIPOC and low-income students in grades 8-12.”

At the end of the program, Jean-Charles describes her boys as being “grateful to have had the opportunity to learn in a community of their peers and to think about math in a way that ultimately inspired them. ”

The Calculus Project was recently targeted by a conservative national [not local] parent organization group who argue that such a math program is “discriminatory.”
