De Leon’s reading and lecture will take place on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 5:30 PM at the College. Ms. De Leon will be reading from her short story, “Home Movie,” which was chosen as this year’s “One City, One Story” selection for the Boston Book Festival.

As an author, speaker, and educator, Jennifer De Leon brings her own rich history to life through her writing. The child of Guatemalan immigrants, Ms. De Leon’s discusses powerful subjects such as race, politics, education, and poverty through storytelling. “Labouré College’s diverse community will be a wonderful place to share my short story, “Home Movie”.   We will discuss the ways in which “the story” can provide crucial insight into the complex intersection of race, class, and educational issues, dispelling myths and showcasing the diversity of our community’s experiences,” said Jennifer De Leon.  A resident of Milton, MA, Ms. De Leon teaches in the Boston Public Schools and is currently working on a novel.

Labouré College has provided opportunities in healthcare education to a diverse population for more than 120 years. Since Jennifer De Leon talks about the importance of stories, I know that her writing and her message will resonate with our students,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Al DeCiccio.
