Milton Public Library releases virtual events for April

The Milton Public Library is offering a couple of fun virtual adult programs in April and we hope you might consider joining us via Zoom for one of them during this difficult time of social distancing.  Chatting with new friends and staff online about good books and films is a great way to pass the time, be entertained and learn something new! There will be a virtual meeting of the “Celebrity Book Group” with Sara Truog and Sally Lawler happening on Thursday, April 9th, at 7 PM.  Join them via Zoom to discuss the chosen title which is Elevator Pitch by Linwood Barclay.  This program gives all a chance to discuss what the celebrities are reading in a fun and relaxed way (note: sadly they are unlikely to attend our meetings).  This book was recommended by Stephen King and no signup is required to participate in the discussion.

Also on Wednesday, April 15th starting at 2 PM, there will be an enjoyable event good for adults and/or teens, and it’s called “Let’s Talk About Movies with Jean.”  Since most of you are probably watching a lot of movies at home right now anyway, join Jean Hlady for a lively discussion where the first week you would watch the chosen film and then during the second week you can chat about it for about an hour, making new friends along the way.  The title to be watched – using our online Kanopy service at our website – is: “Ladies in Lavender” starring Judy Dench, Maggie Smith and Daniel Bruhl.  In this wonderful 2004 film, you will learn the story of aging spinster sisters Ursula and Janet who discover a young man near death on the beach by their home in a small Cornish fishing village.  Taking him in they discover that he is Andrea, a violinist from Krakow Poland, who had been swept off an ocean liner on which he was sailing to a fresh start in America. Check out our events list at www.miltonlibrary.org for more details and to sign up. This movie is rated PG13 for very subtle language and violence and the running time is 1 hour and 44 minutes.  Registration is open now and we hope you will consider sharing this time together in our new virtual landscape. Once you register, you will receive a link to join the conversation!

What you need to participate in these events: a computer or other device with a webcam (that little circle at the top of the monitor) and a built-in microphone, plus your library card.  If you need help setting up your device for these programs, please Email [email protected] and someone will get back to you Mon-Fri 9-5. These programs are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library and we encourage you to join us at the library this month – online!
