What are we discussing? Top Milton Neighbors posts – June 2022

Wondering what the top Milton Neighbors posts for were this past month?

We’ve summarized the top posts for you from the past 28 days.

1. Should Milton schools have metal detectors?

“So after yesterday incident [sic] how many of you think it’s time to put detectors and security in the mps schools god forbid something ever happened to our children what are all your thoughts… [sic]”

2. Cunningham Beech tree preserved by local Eagle Scout

“So, The Cunningham Park Foundation was looking to find someone to preserve a section of a Beech tree that died and was planted when the park first came to be in 1900. With the help of Kevin, Griffin agreed to take this project on with hopes of making this his Eagle Project for scouts…”

3. Select Town Meeting members propose cutting the Milton Public Schools budget

“Despite many people rising to denounce such a cut, around two dozen Town Meeting members anonymously voted to support that proposed $5.5 million cut. Enough Town Meeting members then demanded a roll call vote, to reveal the names of the Town Meeting members supporting a $5.5 million school cut. During the next hour of roll call voting: (1) some of the very people advocating for “transparency“ in the last election were suddenly opposed to transparency in Town Meeting voting (one of them said, repeatedly, that it was “political theater“); and (2) the number of Town Meeting members publicly willing to support a $5.5 million cut in the school budget dried up to only about a third of the original support.”

4. Plea to leash your dogs!

“Note sarcasm please.
I *love* it when people knowingly neglect the fact that NONE of the town parks are official off leash dog parks. There are SIGNS saying to LEASH YOUR DOG for a reason. Have a well trained pup who has great recall? That’s wonderful. Unfortunately you are in the minority. For everyone else who have dogs with not-so-great recall or whose dogs dash out of the nether side of the park because “I’m FREE!” maybe you should reconsider taking off their leashes hmm?…”

5. Why is there a rainbow flag in the Milton Neighbors group title?

Some neighbors seem to think there can only be one flag and if you don’t use it 24/7/365 you hate America.

“Why not 🇺🇸 instead of 🏳️‍🌈 ?”

6. No arms in schools

“Arming teachers and turning schools jails for kids, is not education, it is called madness. Kids, parents, those who work in schools and teacher all deserve far better.”

7. Milton public official politicizes Memorial Day observance and is asked to resign

“This really happened?” in response to article: Milton town official resigns after making anti-Biden remark at Memorial Day observance

8. Congrats, grads!

“Congratulations to all the 2022 Milton High Graduates!
Special thanks to all the teachers who brought this class together despite difficult circumstances. Forever grateful for their hard work and dedication. THANK YOU!”

9. Pierce lockdown

“Does anyone know what the lock down situation is at Pierce??? (Worried parent here!)”

10. Help needed for struggling teen

“My teen is struggling with low self esteem and feelings of worthlessness. Please recommend therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists that specialize in this area. Bonus if they’re taking new patients. Thank you.”
