Local painter Vincent Crotty will show his work in the Wotiz Gallery of the Milton Public Library from July 6-31, 2023.

Mr. Crotty is an Irish-born artist who has been living in Boston since 1990. Regarded for his landscapes, seascapes, nocturnes, and figurative paintings, he paints with fluid and vigorous brushstrokes, balanced by sensitive color. His paintings reveal a remarkable understanding of light – transforming everyday subject matter into images that are memorable and moving. Vincent explores the places and faces of both Atlantic coasts as his primary subject matter. His paintings of Boston and New England celebrate the gritty corners of urban American life. In Ireland, he captures the silvery gleam of wet galvanized roofs, and bursts of sunshine illuminating a wild landscape.

Vincent has been exhibiting his work for over 35 years, with gallery shows in Ireland and throughout the U.S. His paintings have been recognized with awards from the MA Cultural Council, the John Stobart Foundation, Plein Air Magazine, and more. He has taught many painting workshops, to include Colorado, Wyoming, Nova Scotia, Wexford (Ireland) and throughout Massachusetts.

This artist was born in Ireland and learned the art of sign craft there, in his 20s. He trained at Cork City in a trade school called Fas, starting in 1987. His teachers gave him everything they had to offer, which was handed down to them through the traditional master-to-apprentice guild system. Before Fas, Vincent was inspired by the work of Tomas Tuipeir, a master sign painter from West Cork.  He had many opportunities to visit this master and watch him work. After moving to the U.S. in 1990, he continued his work here and did sign painting as a way to supplement his living as a visual artist.
