The Eustis Estate Museum and Study Center opens to the public on May 17, 2017.

During the late nineteenth century, the Boston area was the center of the Aesthetic Movement in the United States and the Eustis Estate (1878) abounds with the movement’s beautifully crafted details and decorative motifs. Visitors will discover elaborate architectural details and interior design, as well as the stories of the Eustis family, their domestic staff, and the farmhands who cultivated the surrounding fields. Visitors may choose between taking a traditional guided tour of the property or exploring at their own pace by accessing self-guided tour information and using touch screens stationed in the house.

The premiere exhibition at the Eustis Estate, Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England, also opens on May 17. The exhibition has more than one hundred pieces of jewelry, complementary textiles, portraits, and photographs from Historic New England’s collection. The exhibition’s five themes, Celebrate, Remember, Tour, Collect, and Create, feature wedding rings, souvenir cufflinks, jet earrings, opal brooches, and costume jewelry that belonged to New England families from the eighteenth century to today. There is a silver coin bracelet that is a wearable family tree, wedding jewelry that delves into the various meanings of “I do,” tokens from travel abroad, jewelry that memorializes loved ones, and items that showcase New England’s role in the production of American costume jewelry.

The Eustis Estate Museum and Study Center is located at 1424 Canton Avenue, Milton, Mass., 02186. The house is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays from May to October, and Fridays through Sundays from November to April. Guided tours are given at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $8 for students and children. Admission is free for Historic New England members and Milton residents. For more information about the Eustis Estate, visit HistoricNewEngland.org.
