Michael Musto announces candidacy for Milton Library Trustee

My name is Michael Musto, and I am running for a position on the Board of Library Trustees. I believe that my background and passion for our wonderful public library would add great value to the Board and its mission.

I graduated from Brandeis University in 2017, and currently work as a policy analyst in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, while simultaneously attending Suffolk Law School. I also serve as a Town Meeting Member for Precinct 5. I’ve had a front row seat to advocacy at the state level, to the development of state and town-wide budgets, and to how agencies and stakeholders navigate the process of securing funding and recognition for all that they do. I believe this experience will translate well to the Board, where, along with my fellow trustees, I would serve as an advocate for the library’s needs. Further, these experiences have instilled in me a strong sense of public service, and serving on the Board would enable me to give back to the institution and community that mean so much to me.

I am also a lifelong Milton resident, proud graduate of the Milton Public Schools, and a voracious reader. So it was only natural that the library became my second home while growing up. I would not be the person I am today if not for the many services that the library provides to every child in our town, and as a member of the Board of Trustees, ensuring that the library continues to serve our children will be at the forefront of my mind. Every child deserves a world class education. The library, through its many resources and texts it makes available, as well as through its partnership with the schools, serves to enhance the educational experience of our youth. Further, the library serves as a safe space for our students to do their work, to form social connections, to learn new skills and hobbies, and to satisfy their intellectual curiosity.

Learning, self-development, and forming community are lifelong endeavors, and our library offers so much to our adult and elderly populations as well. From yoga classes, to book talks, to just being a reference point on so many topics, the library and its staff are there for you. And the library increasingly comes to you, such as through workshops, book clubs, or setting up shop at the Milton Farmer’s Market.

The library has done a great job of weathering the COVID-19 pandemic, and as we move forward, it’s more vital than ever that the Board continues to advocate for the library’s financial needs, as well as the continued development of the library’s strategic plan. As a Library Trustee, I would work with my fellow Trustees and library staff to ensure that the library continues to provide exceptional service for all residents. I’m eager to bring my energy and passion for our beloved library to the Board of Library Trustees, and respectfully ask for your support and vote on Tuesday, April 26th.
